Southern Careers Institute offers a variety of trade programs at its San Antonio campus.
Its welding program is designed to equip students with all the skills needed for entry-level employment as a welder.
Students learn a variety of modern welding techniques, including stick welding, GMAW/MIG welding, FCAW, and GTAW/TIG.
Welding safety, machine setup, and metallurgy are other important topics covered by this program.
The program can be completed in as little as 7 months.

South Texas Vocational Technical Institute
South Texas Vocational Technical Institute offers a variety of courses that combine lectures and hands-on education.
The Institute’s Combination Welding Program prepares students for a career in construction or maintenance.
The school also offers admission options for applicants who don’t have a high school diploma.
The program can be completed in 10 months.

St. Philip's College
The Welding Program offered by St. Philip’s College prepares students for employment in manufacturing shops, maintenance shops, construction sites, shipbuilding sites, ranches, or oil fields.
The program is certified by the American Welding Society.
Students can choose between three types of credentials:
- Welder/Welding Technologist A.A.S.
- Inert Gas GTAW/GMAW Welder Level 1 Certificate
- Structural/Pipe Layout Level 1 Certificate
The associate degree program is five-semester long while certificate programs are three-semester long.
The last semester for certification classes includes an internship.

Central Texas Technology Center
Another great place to learn how to weld is the Central Texas Technology Center (CTTC) in New Braunfels.
CTTC offers three types of welding classes:
- Introduction to Welding
- Advanced Arc Welding
- Advanced Mig Welding
You have to complete the introductory class before starting the advanced classes.
Tuition is $660 per class.
The school has welding courses that are 80-hours long, such as:

- Advanced TIG Aluminum

Propel Career Academy
Propel Career Academy it’s offering a variety of skilled trade classes at its San Antonio campus.
The school’s catalog includes a Welding Level 1 course that can be completed in as few as 27 weeks.
