The Welding Apprenticeship offered by Utah Career Center combines classroom learning, lab training, and real-world experience.
Trainees attend weekly night classes while also receiving on-the-job training.
The program covers topics such as:
- Basic chemistry and metallurgy
- Blueprint reading
- Welding technologies
- Electricity theory
- Job safety

The apprentices start with a salary equal to 55% of a journeyman’s rate and receive increases gradually.

Salt Lake Community College is offering a variety of programs that are affordable and flexible.

Salt Lake City School District is offering a Career and Technical Education program that combines the academic and technical aspects of learning.
A Precision Production Trades Welding program is available and includes welding classes for beginners, intermediate, and advanced levels.
The beginner class is open to students grade 10-12 while the intermediate and advanced classes are open to 11th and 12th graders.

West High School is offering welding classes as part of its manufacturing program.
A Welding I course designed to introduce students to welding is available for classes 9 through 12.
After successfully completing the introductory class, students grades 10,11, and 12 can take Welding-Level 2.
The Welding 3 class provides students with advanced skills in GMAW, SMAW, FCAW, GTAW, and CAC-A, as well as oxyfuel cutting and robotic plasma cutting.
The advanced classes are open to students in grades 11 and 12.
